20 Buck Spin News Update July 2007

Neige from Alcest / Peste Noire / Amesoeurs will be the vocalist on the next Forgotten Woods album Intolerance Div.

The next Forgotten Woods album, Intolerance Div., has been composed and is ready to be recorded whenever time permits the band to do so. Expect a slightly different approach this time around. Some song titles are "Welcome Perversity", "Swine vs. Swine", "It's Plain To See" and "Alpha Ego".

The two bonus tracks found on the Total Holocaust re-release of Sjel Av Natten will finally also be recorded in a proper fashion. Whether or not these make the cut for the album is uncertain however.

The current Forgotten Woods album “Race Of Cain” on 20 Buck Spin has received positive reviews and continues to attract attention. The band was featured in Decibel Mag recently and will have upcoming interviews in Metal Maniacs, Pitchfork and Zero Tolerance.

Whitehorse have finished their first US tour and have attracted a legion of new followers in the process, flooring crowds on both coasts. The self-titled 2xCD is out now on 20 Buck Spin.

Stormcrow will play a show at Gilman Street in Berkeley on August 10th to honor the release of the split CD with Sanctum. Hopefully we’ll get a full length out of the band in 2008. In the meantime, splits with Oakland’s Laudanum and Skaven are in line. An exclusive shirt design should be available in the near future through 20 Buck Spin.

Coffins has been confirmed for the Maryland Deathfest 2008. We hope to schedule some touring around this, at least on the east coast and if all goes well, the West Coast too. Their split CD with The Arm & Sword Of A Bastard God, featuring 2 new tracks and a Pungent Stench cover, will be officially released on September 4th, but will be available through 20 Buck Spin mailorder well before that date. The band continues to write for their 3rd full length due in 2008.

Graves At Sea are back in action after an extended hiatus. Half the band has relocated to Portland and Oakland respectively. A new rhythm section is in place with Chiyo (Noothgrush) on drum and Miguel (Sour Vein, etc) on bass. The band will go to Japan in October and tour with Corrupted. A split with Wolves In The Throne Room is in the works.

20 Buck Spin is happy to announce that we’ll release the debut album from Lawrence Kansas’ Samothrace in early 2008. Samothrace plays crushing doom crust with a melodic sense beyond their years. They have sample tracks up, and a demo available, at myspace.com/samothraceproject

Wormwood have been invited to play in Japan also. Dates are forthcoming. In the meantime, the band will be touring down the West Coast around the Labor Day weekend, including a show at Gilman Street with Ludicra. Check myspace.com/wormwood for all the dates. Starvation is out now on 20 Buck Spin

Book Of Black Earth embark this week on a West Coast tour supporting Intronaut. Dates and venues can be found at myspace.com/bookofblackearth. The Feast is out now on 20 Buck Spin.

Toronto’s The Endless Blockade recently completed a tour of Europe with Iron Lung. They continue writing for the next LP, Primitive, due on 20 Buck Spin in early 2008.

September 4th will also be the official release date for Half Makeshift’s “L’anse Amort” CD on 20 Buck Spin. Experimental landscapes both serene and terrifying, with elements of everything from Black Boned Angel to Philip Jeck. Currently a release is available on Utech Records, titled “Aphotic Leech”.

A two track split CD (LP on Throne) will be released in September between Grey Daturas and Monarch. Each track is on the more experimental, less structured, droning, feedbacking, ultra low end heavy side of the bands personas with mastering duties handled by Scott Hull. The bands are also to play shows together in Europe in late August. Grey Daturas will have a full length released on Neurot around the same time.

October is the expected / hopeful release time for Hammers Of Misfortune’s “The Locust Years” LP version. The CD is available only as an import in North America, and the album’s length and artwork, seem ultimately appropriate for the vinyl format. Expect a beautiful gatefold edition.

Black Boned Angel recently completed a short Australian tour. Work on the third full length continues. Campbell Kneale’s main project Birchville Cat Motel will be coming to the States in December, likely the West Coast.

New stuff in mailorder includes 2 live limited edition releases from Khanate via the Archive CD label, the Coffins/Cianide split EP, new Cds from N.I.L., Profanatica, Coffins/Otesanek split, Xasthur/Leviathan split and restocks on Asunder’s Works Will Come Undone and Zoroaster’s self-titled MCD.
